SUN FEST presents Riaad Moosa “What’s The Point” – Saturday, 31 May 2025

The Comedy Doctor takes his hilarious show on the road

Award-winning comedian, presenter, writer and actor (and legitimate doctor), Riaad Moosa, is hitting the road with his latest show, “What’s the Point?”. Known as “The Comedy Doctor”, Moosa’s unique blend of humour and intellect guarantees a thought-provoking and laugh-out-loud experience for audiences nationwide. Moosa uses comedy to tackle sensitive issues like Islamic stereotypes, Islamophobia, racism and prolapsed haemorrhoids. His other subjects range from Bollywood to current politics to apartheid. Moosa chooses not to use profanity and explicit vocabulary

In “What’s the Point?”, Moosa humorously navigates the chaos of the world, ponders the meaning of life, and questions humanity’s purpose on this planet. With his signature wit and charm, this doctor-turned-comedian offers what he calls his “lame attempt at being funny and philosophical” – but audiences know better: It’s comedy gold.

Moosa spent three years training in magic and became a silver medallion graduate of the College of Magic in Cape Town, and was presented with the Comedy Magic award at the Centre for the Magical Arts in Cape Town. His future in magic was terminated when somebody doing flash photography illuminated the wire across the stage where his magic orb was floating. Moosa then spent six years training in medicine at University of Cape Town Medical School where he graduated in 2001. He is a qualified medical doctor and GP and worked as such for three years.

His comedy career overlapped with his studies; Moosa started doing stand-up on campus during his fourth year at UCT, and he started performing at the Cape Comedy Collective’s free Comedy Lab workshops, and just two months later, he was the winner of the “One City, Many Comics Talent Competition” held as part of the One City Festival. He became a regular headliner on the comedy circuit, and was invited to perform on Pieter-Dirk Uys’s Evita Live and Dangerous e.tv comedy show. In 2000, he came to prominence on the comedy-club circuit in Cape Town, and his career in the spotlight has continued ever since.

PONDO TRAIL RUN AND WILD COAST SUN PARTNER TO BRING THE “GIFT OF WARMTH” TO PONDOLAND

Pondoland, South Africa – As the 2025 edition of the PONDO Trail Run approaches (28 May – 1 June), Wild Child Africa is proud to continue its partnership with the Wild Coast Sun in support of the Gift of Warmth initiative — a small but powerful way to uplift households in Pondoland as the winter months approach.

Now in its second year, this heartwarming initiative sees trail runners arriving at the Wild Coast Sun for race registration not only to prepare for the adventure of a lifetime, but to contribute much-needed winter essentials – beanies, scarves, gloves, jackets, socks, and blankets – for school children along the PONDO Trail route. The Wild Coast Sun, as official accommodation partner, plays a pivotal role by helping coordinate and collect donations, generously contributing 100 blankets themselves, and assisting in the distribution of these gifts to rural schools.

“Our runners carry their donations with them and hand-deliver them to children in the communities we pass through,” says Matt Botha, Founder of Wild Child Africa. “It’s a beautiful and humbling way to begin the journey — recognising from the start that this run is about so much more than kilometres and elevation. We’re deeply grateful to the Wild Coast Sun for embracing this partnership and helping us grow its impact.”

The PONDO Trail Run is a three-day stage run along the raw and remote northern Wild Coast — a globally recognised biodiversity hotspot and home to over 150 endemic plant species. This stretch of coastline remains largely untouched and is only accessible on foot, making the trail run not only a rare physical challenge but a deeply immersive wilderness experience.

Beyond the trail, the event is a powerful fundraising platform. Proceeds support two primary beneficiaries: the Pondoland Conservation Trust, which works to protect the region’s unique and threatened ecosystems, and Cipla’s Miles for Smiles initiative, which helps fund life-changing cleft surgeries through Operation Smile South Africa.

Tshegetso Boekhouer, General Manager of The Wild Coast Sun, had the following to say about this partnership, “We are pleased to partner with Wild Child Africa for the 2025 PONDO Trail Run once again this year. This collaboration allows us to support a great cause that brings warmth to our neighbouring communities while celebrating the environmental beauty of our surroundings. As stewards of this remarkable coastline, we are committed to creating meaningful experiences for our guests while enriching the lives of local communities and preserving the natural beauty of Pondoland for generations to come. This event will leave a lasting legacy of warmth and compassion in its wake.”
