IMPORTANT NOTICE: UVONGO BEACH TEMPORARY CLOSURE

To all residents and visitors of the KZN South Coast, your health and safety remain our top priority during this festive season. In light of recent concerns, we wish to provide an update regarding Uvongo Beach and the steps that were previously taken to protect public wellbeing.

This notice pertains exclusively to the water quality of recreational areas such as beaches and lagoons, not drinking water. Environmental Health officials regularly monitor these areas to assess risks associated with water-borne diseases that may affect swimmers.

Following recent ongoing water quality assessments, Uvongo Beach was temporarily closed since Friday last week, as a precautionary measure. This decision has been made to safeguard public health during the holiday season.

Clear signage has been placed at the beach, lifeguards advising the public not to swim, and updates have been shared through various platforms. We strongly advise all visitors to avoid swimming at Uvongo Beach until further notice.

The KZN South Coast boasts a variety of Blue Flag beaches and other safe recreational spots that remain open. For more information on alternative options and activities, please visit www.visitkznsouthcoast.co.za.

Environmental Health Services are continuing to monitor water quality and conduct regular testing. The beach will reopen only when it is confirmed to be safe for recreational use. If you experience any health concerns after swimming in affected areas, please seek medical attention and report your case to local health authorities.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we work to ensure a safe and enjoyable festive season for everyone.

Regards,
South Coast Tourism and Investment Enterprise (SCTIE)
