Over the years, the course has been thoughtfully enhanced with an abundance of indigenous flora, captivating water features, and charming stone bridges, solidifying its reputation as one of South Africa’s premier holiday resort courses.
The course has recently undergone significant modifications, including the introduction of new water hazards, bunkers, and narrower fairways, elevating its challenge and making it a ‘must-play’ course for any golf enthusiast.
The par 3 fourth hole, famed as the most iconic hole on the Golf Coast, offers golfers stunning sea views that are sure to leave a lasting impression. Moreover, a series of dams come into play on all but eight holes, providing a sanctuary for a thriving bird population. This unique blend of golfing challenge and natural beauty truly sets Southbroom Golf Club apart.
The Southbroom Golf Club is home to a historic clubhouse, opened in 1954, which has been meticulously refurbished over the years. It now houses a tranquil lounge, a bustling dining area and ‘half way’, and well-appointed restrooms, providing a comfortable retreat for members and guests.
A favourite spot for lunch is the verandah and covered patio, offering panoramic views across the verdant course and the majestic Indian Ocean. This vantage point provides frequent opportunities for whale and dolphin spotting, adding a touch of nature’s spectacle to your dining experience.
The clubhouse has indeed become a “popular amenity and social centre” for the village. The grand bar area buzzes with lively conversation post-round, while the serene lounge hosts the Southbroom Bridge Club every Thursday morning. Various organisations also utilise the meeting room and larger club areas for their Annual General Meetings, attesting to the clubhouse’s versatility and appeal.
Catering for functions is expertly handled in-house, and supervised by dedicated club personnel, many of whom have served the club for over a decade. This commitment to quality and service extends to the Pro Shop, which not only runs a seamless golf operation and stocks an unparalleled range of products but also serves as the village hub. From being a collection and drop-off point to an information kiosk and accommodation bureau, the Pro Shop embodies the welcoming spirit of Southbroom, always greeting you with a friendly smile and a solution.
