Umuziwabantu Municipality Hosts Successful Mayoral Welcome Roadblock to Kick-Start the Festive Season

 

Umuziwabantu Local Municipality, led by Mayor Cllr Siboniso Zungu, conducted a highly successful Mayoral Welcome Roadblock in Harding on 03 December 2025 as part of its annual festive season safety and tourism awareness programme. The joint operation brought together key partners including the South Coast Tourism and Investment Enterprise (SCTIE), Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI), South African Police Service (SAPS), Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS), the Municipality’s Law Enforcement Unit and Fire and Disaster Management Services.

The collaborative initiative aimed to enhance road safety, provide visitor information and welcome travellers entering the region for the holiday period. Officials engaged with motorists, distributed safety and tourism information packs and reinforced messages around responsible travel and community safety.

Mayor Zungu personally welcomed visitors arriving in Harding, encouraging them to explore the town’s offerings and local attractions which includes the Weza Hiking Trail, Ingeli Forest Lodge, B’s Animal Farm and Guesthouse,  mountain biking, bird watching and also to support local businesses.
“Every visitor who chooses our town contributes to our local economy and we appreciate their presence. We urge all holidaymakers to support local establishments and enjoy their stay responsibly,” he said.

SCTIE CEO Dr. Vusumuzi Sibiya commended the partnership, highlighting its importance in boosting tourism and promoting a safe, welcoming environment for all visitors.
“This initiative reflects our commitment to ensuring that every traveller feels valued and informed when arriving in the KZN South Coast region. Harding has a variety of local products that contribute to our broader tourism economy. We appreciate the leadership of the municipality and the dedication of all partners involved,” said Dr. Sibiya.

The Mayoral Welcome Roadblock forms part of ongoing efforts to prioritise visitor safety, strengthen local tourism visibility and promote a positive holiday experience throughout the festive season.
