San Lameer Hotel and Villas

San Lameer is South Africa’s first golf estate and in 2017, celebrated its 40th anniversary.

After all this time, San Lameer remains a highly sought-after eco estate, providing exceptionally luxurious, yet responsible accommodation. The estate features its own exclusive mountain bike trail, golf course, hotel, spa, bar and restaurant, fishing dams, tennis and squash courts, bowling green, swimming pools, library, clubhouse and conference facilities.

San Lameer has a rich history dating back to 1938 when the state granted the land to Colonel GH Langeler, who developed it into a private Estate. Colonel GH Langeler was a keen environmentalist, introducing flora into the grounds, while always keeping the sensitive balance of the ecosystem in mind. At the time of his death in the 1970’s, the trust specified that any new owner should continue with the conservation sentiments of the land.

In 1974, insurance organisation Sanlam purchased the land. Following numerous conservation studies the Scheme stipulated that any development on the property must take on only 40% of the Estate, with 60% being dedicated to maintaining its natural state. On 7 July 1977 San Lameer was proclaimed a private township, with Sanlam developing the Township bearing in mind its original philosophy. In 1990, Sanlam purchased additional land to construct the 18-hole Championship golf course and clubhouse, designed by Peter Matkovich and Dale Hayes.

Today San Lameer is situated on a 200-hectare nature conservancy surrounded by tropical vegetation and the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. The Estate comprises of 622 privately owned villas, which surround the 18-hole golf course and exclusive hotel and spa.

Encompassing the most favourable attributes for both permanent and seasonal living, San Lameer is unrivalled.
