KZN South Coast’s Top Land & Sea Adventures
- Diving
Aliwal Shoal and Protea Banks are globally recognised dive sites and Marine Protected Areas, offering unforgettable encounters with sharks, rays, turtles and vibrant marine life. Visitors can enjoy snorkelling, scuba diving and shark-diving experiences.
- Fishing
The KZN South Coast is a favourite destination for anglers, with excellent deep-sea and shore fishing spots including Margate Pier, Uvongo Pier, Splash Rock, Sand Spit and Orange Rocks. The annual Sardine Run also creates exciting seasonal fishing opportunities.
- Surfing
Renowned for its consistent waves, the region has earned its reputation as a surfing hotspot. Surf schools such as Umzumbe Surf Camp welcome beginners while experienced surfers can enjoy some of the country’s best breaks.
- Water Sports
From kayaking and stand-up paddling to wakeboarding and water skiing, there’s no shortage of water-based fun. Visitors can also enjoy relaxing cruises along the scenic Umzimkulu River.

Adventure seekers can explore hiking, biking and 4×4 trails at Clearwater Trails, ANEW Resort Ingeli Forest, KwaNzimakwe Multi-Trails and more. The KwaXolo Caves adventure also offers a fascinating look into ancient San rock art heritage.

The KZN South Coast’s Agri-Tourism Route showcases the region’s rich farming culture and scenic countryside. Visitors can also discover heritage and history through the Mission Tourism Route.
