South Coast Ultra Marathon
Hosted by the South Coast Striders and sponsored by the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, the 48km South Coast Ultra Marathon is a Comrades Qualifier, taking place on 1 May annually.
Apart from the Ultra Marathon, which needs to be completed in 6 hours to qualify for the famous Comrades marathon, additional races are run or walked on the day, including 21km and 10km races.
The event is run in accordance with the rules of the IAAF, Athletics South Africa and Kwazulu-Natal Athletics. Ultramarathon runners must be 20 years or older, 21km runners must be a minimum age of 16 years and 10km runners 14 years of age on the day of the race.
The route starts and finishes at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre in Gamalakhe. It takes runners and walkers on a journey through the scenic KZN South Coast exploring rural backroads, farmlands, along the beachfront with great sea views for inspiration and up a few challenging hills to keep things interesting.
