Southport a blue flag beach
Southport is situated in Port Shepstone, along the KZN South Coast. The Southport beach, also known as Southport Anerley Beach, is a stunning sight, with blue waters and warm sands, visitors will not be disappointed!
Southport beach has blue flag status making it a popular destination for many beachgoers. The beach has a unique look, where just behind the beach itself, is a lovely shady canopy formed from the trees. Many sit underneath the canopy and watch the ocean, it is a wonderfully relaxing experience. There are ablution facilities on the beach, equipped with showers to keep you refreshed all day long.
The beach has a tidal pool area, perfect for children and adults alike! Visitors can spend the day sitting in the pool and gazing at the crashing waves on the nearby rocks, there is nothing better than a fresh sea breeze.
Do not forget to pack your surfboards and snorkelling gear – this world class beach is home to beautiful fish in addition to the great waves, it is a win-win!
There are a pub and restaurant right off the beach, called Captain’s Anchor. The meals are delicious, and the company is friendly, perfect for the hunger pangs that come after a long day in the sea. Also, there is nothing better than a refreshing drink to complete the experience. There is also a small kiosk next to the restaurant offering tasty treats to cool you down… ice-cream anybody?
As you may have guessed, the canopy area is perfect for picnics whilst watching the breath-taking sunrise over the ocean, what more could one ask for? The canopy area, as well as the beach, is perfect for enjoying a meal, with plenty of space and spots to choose from, this is an activity that should be a part of your next holiday!
Another lovely attraction nearby is the Umtentweni Whale Watching Deck. Lover of whales and dolphins? Then this is the perfect attraction for you! The deck has the best view of the ocean and one can spot any whales or dolphins passing through. The peak watching times are during the whale migration seasons and mating seasons, be sure to bring your cameras! You will want to capture these memories for a lifelong experience to reflect on. The Humpback whale migration is usually from May to December, but this year we have seen early arrivals of these magnificent creatures in April.
